Tobias Halloway
Appearence
Tobias will be the (soft) incarnation of a nerd. Glasses, freckles, shirt under a pullover, book-smart. He will look a bit younger than the other colleagues, and will look especially frail and initially not very confident about anything.
Backstory
Tobias suffers from a (slight) autism and (severe) ADHD. He is good with numbers, but his lack of confidence makes him do mistakes. He also doesn’t have “social” keys (what type of conversation is socially acceptable, etc), but is aware of this so he’ll try to remain silent outside of his expertise field (which are data and numbers). Pythia Solutions and Mr Jameson are comprehensive about this because once he builds up a bit of confidence, Tobias’ data are extremely solid, and those weight more in the balance than any of Tobias’ mistakes.
Tobias lives with his parents, because he can’t afford living on his own, and to his own admission, is mother feels less anxious having him near her so he doesn’t do something “idiotic”.
Relationship with the player
Tobias’s first interaction with the player will be basically him say that the character needs to be careful about anything data related coming his ways, because those numbers aren’t always correct. He will talk in length about this, but will not repeat himself about things (not talking in circle).
By default, the player will be able to either get to “continue” a dialog while the character is still speaking, to make it go faster. If this function is used too many times, Tobias will interrupt himself, apologize, and leave. Note: this is the only instance where interrupting anyone will have consequences in the entire game.
Otherwise, after a while, Tobias will also apologize with a sorry smile, saying something like “Sorry, I tend to speak to much, but it was nice to meet you, see ya”, then leave.
Interrupting Tobias doesn’t close the door on starting his living thread, but it delays it since the player needs to “win back” Tobias’ trust.
The player can still decide not to do anything toward Tobias, who will then start isolating himself.
If you do so, mainly by following the Empty path, Tobias will look less and less happy over time, but in span of time long enough so it’s not obvious to anyone not paying attention. Then , at the beginning of the 3rd third of the game, he will stop showing up, without resigning.
After a couple day of him no longer showing up, the player will see that the character shot a message to Tobias, asking what was going on. Tobias will answer the next day that he decided to completely switch his life around and find something less stressful to do. So he got a job at a burger joint, close to his flat, and he is happy with that.
