The Sleepwalker Path

The fixed day count expires. The player never established a clear trend, neither complicit enough to fade completely nor resistant enough for friction to accumulate into anything. The character continued, unremarkably, until they didn’t.

The ending has no cinematic. Instead: one final morning news summary on the phone, the same way any other morning might begin. Except this time the items are different. Living threads the player never touched, or touched too lightly, reported now as settled history. “Three years since the mining village in Hell was bombarded by government-contracted forces.” “The inquiry into Pythia’s regional contracts has been closed without findings.” Things that happened. Things that might have gone differently. The news doesn’t say so. It never does.

At least one item describes something that resolved positively. Somewhere, something got better, through no connection to the player. The world had the capacity. It just needed someone to push on the right thing at the right time. The news moves on.

Then the morning routine plays out one final time, exactly as it always has. The mirror. Whatever unremarkable face looks back. The door opens, and there is nothing on the other side. White. The routine completed itself and the days ran out mid-gesture.

The player did nothing wrong. They also did nothing. The game ends without underlining this.
