Salary & Loan

Salary & Loan

Frequency

The salary being received and the loan needing to be paid is set as a weekly frequency.

Salary

The salary is calculated as follows:

var rent, loan, utilities int = 1400, 1575, 525
total := rent + loan + utilities // 3500
salary := total * 0.95 // 3325

As such, the player will need bonuses to ensure they have enough to pay for the bills by completing files and earn their bonus.

Loan

The total amount the character needs to pay is set to 30 000 000 credits, but it’s not expected of them to pay the debt in one run. When the player will get a breakdown of it in the first day, it will be shown as follows:

  • Tuition (base cost): 2,000,000 cr
  • Interest: [X]% - The percentage needs to be indecent.
  • Temporal malus: [X]% - applied because of the time required to repay; longer repayment periods cost more, which ensures the repayment period is always longer
  • Institutional reputation surcharge: [X]% - the school’s reputation adds value to your degree, and L&S would like their share of that value
  • Diploma classification fee: [X]% - your specific field of study has been assessed and rated; the rating affects your rate
  • File handling and administrative processing: [X]% - someone had to process your application; you are covering that cost
  • Administrative digitization fee: [X]% - your paper records were converted to their digital system; you were not asked if you wanted this
  • Late enrollment surcharge: [X]% - you enrolled during a period retroactively classified as high-demand; the definition of high-demand is proprietary
  • Guarantor processing fee: [X]% - verification that no guarantor was present on your loan required processing; processing costs money
  • Regulatory compliance adjustment: [X]% - recent changes in lending regulation required system updates; you are helping cover the cost of compliance
  • L&S operational share: [X]% - the smallest percentage; appears near the end; by this point the value it represents is larger than the original tuition
  • VAT: [X]% - the only mention of this tax anywhere in the entire game

Each percentage ([X]% ) will be calculated cut randomly for each game started. What counts is that the results falls right on 30 000 000.

In the early game, the player will miss several payments, mainly because Pythia’s salary doesn’t cover everything from the get go. The player will need to gain a grade in order to start reimbursing the loan.

Not being able to reimburse the loan will have the following effect:

  • The missed amount is added to the principal, making it grow. The character won an extra mensuality
  • The next minimum payment increases
  • Repeated misses trigger escalating contact:
    • a stern email
    • the boss will talk about the loan company contacting them
    • the word will spread to the bar
  • Sustained failures to pay will trigger The bitten path
